City Council Invites Interested Globe Students To Apply For Appointment To The City’s First Seven-Member Youth Council

Issued by: Manoj Vyas, City Manager
Date: Thursday, July 31, 2008

At the last Monday night’s Globe City Council Meeting, the City’s Mayor & Council authorized the City Manager to begin the process leading to the Council’s appointment of seven members to form the City’s First Youth Council. Based on the City’s successful experience from its last two annual Summer Youth Leadership Programs, the Council Members now wished to offer an additional opportunity for the young boys and girls of the City to develop their leadership qualities, learn about the practical aspects of understanding and determining needs of the citizens, identifying problems or areas of improvement, exploring and analyzing alternative solutions, building consensus, making decisions, etc. in a local municipal government environment.

City Council invites applications from all students who live inside the City Limits and are in any school (including home schooling) at Junior High/Middle School or High School level. Those who are qualified and interested in being nominated and considered for a seat on the City’s Youth Council (for a possible one-year term), all they have to do is to fill out the attached simple Interest Form and contact their respective City Council Members and get the completed Forms in the City Council Member’s hands or bring it (or Mail it to the Globe City Hall located at 150 N. Pine Street, Globe, Arizona 85501). If the City receives the completed form via mail, we will forward it to the appropriate Council Member.

Each City Council Member and the mayor will make one nomination from the interest received to form the seven-member City Youth Council. Once appointed and oriented, in their first meeting, the seven members of the Youth Council will elect a Mayor and Vice Mayor from among themselves, just to follow a structure during their possible monthly meetings and quarterly presentations to the City Council. City Council will share certain selected issues with them (including, but not limited to, Recreations Items and other items that may affect our future generations) and request their input as an Advisory Body to the City Council. This is an excellent opportunity to get involved, learn about leadership, and become a part of our City’s Future .. now!

The City Council also invites “Letters of Interest“ from volunteer Mentors who would love to work with the members of the Youth Council, share their experience and familiarity with the municipal government, and coach them as they develop leadership and other desired skills to serve effectively as the appointed Youth Council. These letters can be mailed directly to the Hon. Mayor & Council, City of Globe at the above written address.
