There has been a positive identification of West Nile Virus in a trap within the city limits of Casa Grande. Please follow these guidelines to help control mosquito population and reduce the possibility of infection of the West Nile Virus:
1. Empty all sources of standing water around the home to reduce mosquito breeding. Clean and chlorinate swimming pools and spas.
2. Take extra precautions when outside between dusk and dawn as these are the times of day when mosquitoes are most active.
3. If you must be outdoors when mosquitoes are active, wear lightweight clothing that covers your arms and legs and use an insect repellent containing an EPA registered active ingredient such as DEET, Picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus. Always follow the directions on the label.
4. Make sure doors and windows have tight fitting screens and remain closed.
5. Report green or abandoned swimming pools to the County Mosquito Hotline at (520) 866-6200.
The county will continue to monitor its traps and keep the City of Casa Grande informed as well as fogging areas that are identified as prime mosquito breeding grounds.
Pinal County Environmental Health Services announced that fogging is planned for Casa Grande, weather permitting, from 11 pm to 5 am Monday through Wednesday nights (Aug. 11th-13th). The area to be fogged is south of Kortsen Rd., north of Florence Blvd, east of Pinal Ave. and west of Peart Rd.
Residents in the affected areas are asked to take the following precautions during fogging:
1. Close all doors and windows. Air conditioners can be operated, but vents bringing in outside air should be closed. Evaporative coolers should be turned off.
2. Stay inside your home.
3. Bring pets inside if possible.
4. You may resume normal activities 30 minutes after fogging ends each night.
