Prescribed Burn For Cordes Junction Area
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) plans to conduct a prescribed burn on Jan. 21st, weather permitting. The burn will be on Sycamore Mesa, about 3 miles east of Cordes Junction, in the northeast section of the Agua Fria National Monument. Juniper piles will be ignited by BLM fire personnel when weather & vegetation conditions allow for safe burning. Up to 100 acres will be affected. Nearby residents in Cordes Lakes may see some light smoke during the burn operation. No impact to I-17 is expected. After ignition, the area is expected to burn down quickly, but it may smolder for a few days. Smoke should disperse out of the area in a short period of time. Fire crews will continue to monitor conditions following all prescribed burn activities.
