The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is currently widening a two-mile segment of State Route (SR) 77 between Winkelman and Globe. Limited space and extensive blasting operations have required the closure of the highway from 6 am to 6 pm, Monday through Friday. ADOT will open the highway for Presidents’ Day holiday weekend travel beginning Friday, Feb. 13th, at 2 pm; it will remain open until Tuesday, Feb. 17th, at 8 am. This schedule is subject to change in the event of inclement weather or other factors beyond ADOT’s control.
After the holiday weekend, ADOT will continue the current construction schedule with closures of SR 77 from 6 am to 6 pm, Monday through Friday. During nighttime and weekend hours, the highway will be open for restricted northbound and southbound travel. One lane will be open, with signals at each end of the work zone to control one-way traffic. ADOT advises drivers to expect delays of up to 30 minutes when traveling through the construction area. School busses and emergency vehicles will be provided access via pilot car escort during the closure times. Motorists needing an emergency escort should call 911.
During closures of SR 77 an alternate route is available on SR 177 between Winkelman and Superior and on US 60 between Superior and Globe. ADOT appreciates drivers’ patience as it constructs this project to provide wider shoulders and a rockfall containment ditch.
