Pioneer Fire Update

The lightning-caused Pioneer Fire (approx. 7 miles south of Globe & west of Highway 77) on the east side of East Mountain. Firefighters continue to put out fire starts along the perimeter and work to strengthen fire lines east of Forest Road 112, and along the ridge from East Mountain to the El Capitan rest area. There are now approx. 200 firefighters assisting with fire suppression activity.A Red Flag warning is in effect throughout the day due to strong gusty southwest winds and low humidity. Smoke from the Pioneer Fire is expected to be visible for the next several days.Resource concerns include reducing impacts to the East Mountain Trail #214 and Toll Road Trail #200. Public access to Pioneer Pass Rd., Pioneer Pass Recreation Site, and East Mountain Trail is restricted due to fire activity.
