Pioneer Fire Update
The Pioneer Fire continues to burn on the Globe Ranger District, Tonto National Forest. The fire is burning on the west side of East Mountain with low to moderate intensity. Burn-out operations, yesterday afternoon and throughout the night, were successful to help reach the completed fire lines.Yesterday, the fuels dried rapidly after precipitation the day before and returned to their original dry state increasing fire behavior. Firefighters will continue to build and improve the firelines today. There will be a decrease in fire activity today as fire crews continue to mop up and patrol. They want to remind everybody of the very dry conditions in the area and emphasize the importance of following good safety practices with fire. There will be a large number of fire vehicles and apparatus on the streets of the community as fire suppression efforts continue, so please be alert to their presence. The lightning-caused Pioneer Fire (approx. 7 miles south of Globe & west of Highway 77) has now burned 953 acres & is 30% contained. There are now 291 personnel working the fire along with 4 helicopters.
