Drug Prevention Coalition To HostT Random Student Drug Testing Summit

On Thursday, April 24th, Deputy Director for Demand Reduction at the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), Dr. Bertha K. Madras, will be in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, to address local community leaders & education officials during a regional drug prevention summit on school-based random student drug testing - initiated & hosted by the Promoting Prevention Coalition of Pagosa Springs, Colorado.

School administrators, principals, teachers, nurses, counselors, social workers, athletic directors, coaches, & parents are invited to attend this informative drug prevention forum, which will be held from 8:30 am to 2:10 pm at the Pagosa Springs Community Center (451 Hot Springs Boulevard, Pagosa Springs, Colorado). The summit will be geared specifically toward middle & high schools in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Arizona, & Kansas.

The regional random student drug testing summit will address relevant legal & programmatic issues, & serve as an introduction for school districts that would like to learn more about drug prevention, intervention, & treatment programs, like random student drug testing. Participants will be provided information on various funding mechanisms for developing, implementing, & expanding random student drug testing programs in their schools.

Over 4,100 schools nationwide have implemented random student drug testing as a public health approach to drug prevention, deterrence, & treatment. The programs are community-initiated, non-punitive, treatment-based, & protect student confidentiality & privacy.
