ADEQ Announces New VEI Station

ADEQ Director Steve Owens has announced that ADEQ plans to open a new vehicle emissions inspection (VEI) station on Deer Valley Rd. to serve the rapidly growing N. Phoenix area. The new VEI station, located at 501 W. Deer Valley Rd., will open in Jan. '09 when the department's new contract with Gordon-Darby, Inc. goes into effect.

The opening coincide's with the closing of an underutilized north Phoenix VEI station, located at 15349 N. 40th St. That station islocated in a commercial shopping center & is surrounded by a residential area, where complaints have been frequent about the noise it generates.

"This new station will make it easier & more convenient for those who live or work north of Bell Rd. & in other parts of N. Phoenix to get their cars inspected," Director Owens said. "In addition to being conveniently located, the station will have shorter wait times as well as programmable signs with updated information on wait times."

The new, 3-lane inspection station will be located near Loop 101 & I-17 & is expected to handle more than half of the current motorists using the 40th St. VEI station along with those who live & work farther north. It's expected to handle 80,000 inspections annually. Each inspection lane will have the capability to perform all types of emissions inspections including 2 on-board diagnostic (OBD) inspections simultaneously.

The station will be able to quickly and efficiently inspect both conventional- and OBD-equipped vehicles. For more info on ADEQ's VEI program, including locations of all inspection stations & wait-time updates, please visit:
