All Flags At State Buildings At Half Staff Saturday

Gov. Janet Napolitano announced that all flags at state buildings will be flown at half staff Saturday, Dec. 8th, in honor of Silvestre Herrera, a Glendale resident and Medal of Honor recipient who passed away Nov. 26th, at age 90.

Herrera was the first Arizona resident to receive the nation’s highest military honor during World War II. He received the Medal of Honor for heroic actions in a battle on March 15th, 1945 in France. Herrera, born in Mexico, also received the Primer Merito Militar, Mexico’s highest military honor, & is the only person ever authorized to wear both awards.
