HB2268 Change Gives Cancer Coverage To Peace Officers

Members of the Arizona Police Association (APA) & Mesa Police Association (MPA) saluted Gov. Janet Napolitano yesterday for allowing certified peace officers cancer coverage. Bill HB2268 was signed at 11:30 am. "We have seen an overwhelmingly support on this issue from legislators," said Fabian Cota, president of the MPA. "MPA applauds the State of Arizona for hearing us & taking our health into consideration," he added.

HB2268 changes the name of the "Fire Fighter Cancer Insurance Policy Program" to the "Fire Fighter & Peace Officer Cancer Insurance Policy Program." This bill extends coverage to certified peace officers."

Providing officers with coverage recognizes the importance cancer & the role is plays on the day-to-day operations of all peace officers," said Cota. The Mesa Police Association was founded in 1989. The organization is currently the largest association representing active Mesa Police Officers, & remains dedicated to promoting the positive role of Law Enforcement Professionals in the community.
