Mesa Mayor Scott Smith has been elected to serve as the 2008-2009 chair of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority. The election of officers took place at the Authority’s board meeting on August 4th.
The approved slate of officers includes Town of Queen Creek Mayor Art Sanders as vice chairman, City of Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon as secretary and Gilbert Mayor Steve Berman as treasurer. Lt Governor Allison-Ray will represent the Gila River Indian Community as past-chair.
“It is a privilege to serve as Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority chair,” said Mayor Smith. “This airport is, and will continue to be, the focal point for economic growth in the region and a catalyst for enhanced public/private sector cooperation as the ‘Sun Corridor’ become a reality.”
Mayor Smith’s term as chair will end in July 2009. In addition to his involvement with Airport Authority, Mayor Smith also serves on the boars of the Maricopa Association of Governments’ Transportation Policy Committee, Regional Council and Arizona Municipal Water Users Association.
