The Arizona State Transportation Board approved $58 million in construction contracts to improve the state’s transportation system in Coconino, Gila, Graham, Maricopa, Pinal, Yavapai and Yuma Counties at its monthly meeting today in Prescott Valley.
Coconino County
Interstate 40 Repaving - The project consists of repaving a 10-mile segment of I-40 from Dennison to the Navajo County line, 2 miles east of Winslow. FNF Construction will begin work in September on the $12.5 million contract, which is scheduled for completion in spring 2009.
Gila County
State Route 77 Widening - The project consists of widening a 2-mile segment of State Route 77 about 10 miles north of Winkelman. The work will involve blasting & removing 400,000 cubic yards of an adjacent slope to provide for an 8-foot shoulder and a rockfall containment ditch. Ames Construction will begin work in September on the $8.7 million project, which is scheduled for completion in July 2009.
Drainage at Preacher Canyon Bridge - The project consists of constructing a new drain pipe and drainage structures at the Preacher Canyon Bridge, which is east of Star Valley on State Route 260. Bison Contracting will begin work in September on the $300,000 contract, which is scheduled for completion in late 2008.
Graham County
US 70 Widening - The project consists of widening & repaving US 70 near Safford between Lone Star Road & the San Simon River Bridge. Combs Construction will begin work in September on the $600,000 project, which is scheduled for completion in late 2008.
Maricopa County
Rubberized Asphalt on Interstate 17 - The project consists of overlaying the existing pavement with rubberized asphalt on I-17 from Dunlap Avenue to Thunderbird Road. Meadow Valley Contractors will begin work in September on the $1.6 million contract, which is expected to take 2 months to complete.
Pinal County
US 60 Turn Lane - The project consists of lengthening the existing left-turn lane & widening the median crossover on US 60 at Peralta Road. EME West Construction will begin work in September on the $222,000 contract, which is scheduled for completion in late fall.
Yavapai County
Interstate 17 Repaving - The project consists of repaving a 7-mile segment of I-17 from the General Crook Trail Traffic Interchange through Camp Verde to the McGuireville Traffic Interchange. Asphalt Paving & Supply will begin work in September on the $4.1 million project, which is scheduled for completion in early 2009.
State Route 89 Repaving - The project consists of repaving a 5-mile segment of State Route 89 between State Route 89A & Chino Valley. Southwest Asphalt Paving will begin work in September on the $969,000 project, which is scheduled for completion in November.
State Route 89 Widening in Chino Valley - The project consists of widening State Route 89 in Chino Valley between Road 4 South & Center Street. Kiewit Western will begin work in September on the $19.2 million project, which is scheduled for completion in fall 2009.
ADOT is employing the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) approach on this project. CMAR is a project delivery contracting method which involves selecting a contractor based on qualifications & giving the contractor the opportunity to provide input into the project design. This method is designed to reduce costs, make construction more efficient, & save time from planning and design through the completion of construction.
Yuma County
San Luis Port of Entry - The project consists of constructing a new State Port of Entry for the inspection of commercial trucks entering into the United States from Mexico. Austin Bridge & Road will begin work in September on the $10.2 million project, which is scheduled for completion in September 2009.
