“An Introduction to Entering the Grass Fed Beef Market” Workshop

Ranchers, landowners and interested individuals can attend an upcoming “An Introduction to Entering the Grass Fed Beef Market” workshop to be held at the San Carlos Cattle Office (NE corner of San Carlos Ave. & BIA Road 6) on the San Carlos Apache Nation on Sept. 26th, 2007. The workshop's free to all participants & begins at 1 pm & end's at 5 pm.

Technical & practical info will be provided to those individuals interested in marketing their beef as grass-fed. The workshop participants will learn about:

* The Market Language – Labels & Laws
* Changing from Range to Grass Fed Market
* Raising a Grass Crop
* Marketing Grass Fed Meat

The workshop presenters include: Dr. John Marchello, Director of the Meat Lab at the University of Arizona; Harry Owens, Certified Crop Advisor with Wilbur-Ellis Company (a leading international marketer and distributor of agricultural and industrial products) along with Arizona producers and ranchers whom have made the change from traditional beef production on range for grass fed market & their lessons learned from their experiences.

If there is continued interested expressed from the workshop participants to learn more about the how to make the change & market their beef as grass fed, additional in-depth workshops can be conducted in San Carlos in the future.

The workshop is a collaboration among the San Carlos Apache Natural Resources Conservation District (NRCD), the Coronado and Hohokam Resource Conservation & Development (RC&D) Councils and the San Carlos Apache Tribe Soil & Moisture Conservation Program.
