Toyota Bringing Driving Course For Teens & Parents

Toyota is bringing driving course to Phoenix for area teen’s & their parents.

WHAT: Toyota Driving Expectations is a free-of-charge 4-hour program bringing Phoenix-area teens & their parents together to learn proper driving techniques from professional drivers in real behind-the-wheel scenarios. It is also designed to teach parents how to be good driving role models & teachers.

WHAT ELSE: The program’s multiple driving courses & classroom instruction for teens & their parents go beyond what is currently taught in driver’s training classes to help provide teens with the experience they need to identify and react in dangerous driving situations. In addition, a distracted driving course has teens navigate a course drinking water, listening to loud music & talking on a cell phone to demonstrate just how dangerous these activities can be while driving.

WHY:

*Although teens make up only 6.6% of licensed drivers, they suffer 14% of all auto-related fatalities & driver error is involved in 77% of the fatal crashes involving 16-year-olds.
* In 2005, more than 5,000 teens died in automobile accidents.
*Beyond the driving education courses teens receive to obtain a driver’s license, parents are their main teachers. However, most parents receive no formal training on how to teach their teen driving techniques.
*An August 2007 crash caused by a Glendale teen text-messaging while driving killed all involved, bringing the issue of distracted driving to the forefront of local awareness.
