The 4th Annual USO Dinner and Dance on Nov. 10th, is presented in conjunction with Arizona State Parks 50th birthday celebration hosted in Florence by McFarland State Historic Park, and in remembrance of Ernest W “Mac” McFarland. The USO project will establish a vocational/technical scholarship administered by American Legion Post #9 in the name of Ernest “Mac” McFarland.

Dance: 6:30 to 10:30 pm
Florence Woman’s Club
* The Terry McFee Orchestra - back by popular demand, playing music from 40s swing to 70s disco.
* wine/beer bar is available from 5 pm along with other refreshments & snacks.
Late Night Bonus: Patrons are invited to return to the American Legion to enjoy a Western Band & free coffee after the dance.

Ernest W. “Mac” McFarland is unique in the annals of Arizona history having served in the highest office in all 3 branches of Arizona government - 2 at the state level & 1 at the federal level. “Mac” served in the US Navy, was a banker, lawyer, county attorney of Pinal Co., superior court judge of Pinal Co., U.S. Senator, Gov. of Arizona, Chief Justice on the Az. Supreme Court, businessman and among his many accomplishment is acknowledged as the “Father of the G.I. Bill”. The scholarship named for him will be awarded to a Florence Unified School District High School graduating student with a “C” or better average who is the child or grandchild of a veteran. The scholarship may be used to attend trade, technical or vocational school in the state of Arizona.
The Florence Woman’s Club was the home of the USO in Florence from 1942 to 1946. Service men & women came from the surrounding area to enjoy the library, music, dancing, refreshments, & to relax. Members of the Florence Woman’s Club often served as hostesses, & made many of the pastries & deserts served in the Florence USO Club.
