Construction On SR 85 North of Lewis Prison Continues

The Arizona Department of Transportation is continuing to improve State Route 85 with the construction of a new 4-lane divided highway that extends 2 miles north of the Lewis Prison traffic interchange.

Over the next 2 months, heavy construction equipment will be required to cross the existing highway. During this time, traffic control devices & flagging stations will be set up & Arizona Department of Public Safety officers will be present. Flaggers will briefly stop traffic traveling on SR 85 to allow heavy construction equipment to cross the highway. Drivers should approach the heavy equipment crossings with extreme caution, as traffic may be at a complete stop.

Motorists should use caution & must comply with all posted restrictions throughout the project, including a "No Passing Zone" within the project limits. The speed limit through the construction zone will be 55 miles per hour. Narrow conditions exist with a maximum load width limit of 14 feet. Traffic signs will provide details & flagmen will assist with traffic movement.

The SR 85 construction project is on schedule, & is likely to be completed in late 2008.

ADOT will make every effort to minimize the disruption & inconvenience to drivers & to complete this project in a safe & efficient manner. ADOT appreciates your patience & cooperation during this time.
