Remodeling is underway in one of the old National Guard of Arizona Armory buildings which will house Gila Community College’s new Regional Skill Center. Construction is scheduled to be completed in time for the fall 2008 semester which starts in August. This project is made possible by a 3-way partnership between Gila County, Freeport McMoRan Copper and Gold; Miami Operations, & the Gila Community College.
The Regional Skill Center will house training facilities for 2 new programs that will be offered by Gila Community College: Electrical and Instrumentation Technician, & Industrial Plant Technician. Each of the programs is designed to be completed in two semesters (about 9 months). However, additional training leading to an Applied Science degree would continue for candidates who successfully complete the program & wish to complete coursework leading to an AAS degree. Both of these programs will train selected participants for a career in high-demand fields. Typical starting salary in either field is in the range of $38,000+ per year.
For more information on these programs and to reserve your place by pre-registering, contact Patricia Burke or Dr. Stephen Cullen at the Gila Pueblo Campus or by calling (928) 425-8481. Space is limited so call early to ensure your training slot.
