Phoenix - Governor Janet Napolitano has signed a declaration of emergency for Pima County, where centralized rain and subsequent flooding caused significant damage to public infrastructure. In a 24-hour period beginning Jan. 27th, 8.5 inches of precipitation fell in and around Mount Lemmon. The rains caused damage to roads, stranded residents in their homes with limited access to food and medical assistance, & damaged potable water supply lines.
Pima County declared an emergency and requested state assistance to reimburse political subdivisions for expenses associated with the preservation of the health, welfare and safety of its citizens and for repairs to the infrastructure impacted by this event. The declaration releases $200,000 from the Governor's Emergency Fund. This money will be used to pay for emergency response costs and to repair public infrastructure impacted by this event; roads and potable water supply lines. These funds are not available to repair individual homes.
