New Ramp Meters On US 60 To Be Activated Monday

On March 3rd, the Arizona Dept. of Transportation will activate new ramp meters along US 60 in East Mesa, providing drivers with a safer & more efficient way to get to work.

The ramp meters are located on every entrance ramp between Gilbert Rd. & Crismon Rd. on US 60. The meters on the westbound entrance ramps will be activated during the morning commute, starting at 5:30 am until 9 am. The eastbound entrance ramp meters will be activated during the evening commute, from 3 - 7 pm. Each entrance ramp has 2 meters, to better regulate traffic flow onto the freeway.

Ramp meters are an important safety feature on Valley freeways. The meters regulate space between cars & allow drivers to merge easier onto the freeway. This prevents congestion in the right lanes, along with preventing some crashes. Drivers experience better traffic flow when entering the freeway & can safely merge with the help of ramp meters. The ramp meters are part of a 2-year ADOT project to widen US 60 between Val Vista Drive & Crismon Rd. During that time, existing ramp meters were turned off & additional ramp meters were installed between Gilbert & Crismon.
