ADEQ Director Steve Owens announced that the ADEQ plans to open a new vehicle emissions inspection (VEI) station in the rapidly growing Southwest Valley in January 2009 when the department's new contract with Gordon-Darby, Inc. goes into effect.
Currently, the closest VEI inspection centers for Goodyear & other Southwest Valley residents are in the 7100 block of North 110th Ave. in Glendale & in the 5300 block of West Roosevelt Street in Phoenix. Owens said that ADEQ included a requirement that a VEI station be built in the Southwest Valley when the VEI contract was sent out for bids earlier this year.
The new 3-lane inspection station, to be located in Goodyear, is expected to handle 80,000 inspections annually when it opens in January 2009. Each inspection lane will have the capability to perform 2 on-board diagnostic (OBD) inspections simultaneously. The station will be able to quickly & efficiently inspect both conventional & OBD-equipped vehicles.
The station will be located on a 3-acre site at 16120 East Eddie Albert Way, approx. 5 miles south of the Papago Freeway (I-10), midway between the South Cotton Lane & South Estrella Parkway exits. East Eddie Albert Way is located just north of MC85, & east of Sarival Road.
